Beginning March 6, I’ll be writing a weekly column for WE: The Westender that will shine the spotlight on all of the incredible television shows, films, web series, and visual effects being created right here in the 604.
The column’s name? Reel People. In it, I’ll profile casts and crews, visit sets, report on industry challenges and triumphs, and keep my readers up to speed on local projects and innovations.
I’m particularly interested in the “people” part of the title: the team members we don’t always hear about (make-up artists, sound designers, stunt choreographers, casting agents, etc) but who are nonetheless essential in bringing a project to completion. Together, they’re tens of thousands strong, and the lifeblood of the industry.
It’s an industry that has faced some well-documented challenges, but it’s forging ahead and creating dynamite work. I’ve already told some of its stories in WE: The Westender, and I’m excited to share even more of them, every week, in print and online.
